Amtrak train stopped after hitting, killing dog on tracks near Titlow
An Amtrak train struck and killed a dog at Tacoma's Titlow Park on Sunday afternoon, officials said.
The train stopped before 1 p.m. after striking the dog near the south end of the park, according to the Tacoma Fire Department and Tacoma police. Firefighters responded to the incident.
"The dog walker was OK, just upset," said Chris Brink, a battalion chief for Tacoma Fire.
The train was delayed for about an hour before restarting its journey south from Vancouver, B.C., to Portland, Amtrak spokeswoman Beth Toll said in a statement. None of the 225 passengers or crew was injured.
