Bank robbery leads to car chase and arrest, Tacoma police say
A Tacoma police officer was nearby Tuesday when a bank robber tried to make a getaway. A suspect was arrested after a car chase, police say.
The sequence of events began at 3:40 p.m. when a man entered a Chase Bank branch at South 11th Street and Pacific Avenue, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.
He demanded money but did not display a weapon, Cool said. He left with an undisclosed amount of money.
Shortly after a description of the robber was broadcast, an officer spotted the suspect and a chase began.
At South 11th and South M streets, the suspect's car hit another car driven by a woman. The suspect continued without stopping.
Moments later, his car hit a curb and then a retaining wall at South 11th and South Sheridan streets, Cool said.
The suspect was taken into custody and two others in his car were detained.
The suspect will be booked for robbery and other charges, Cool said.
