Intoxicated driver strikes pedestrian on SR 161, State Patrol says

An intoxicated driver struck and injured a pedestrian late Saturday evening along state Route 161 near Eatonville, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The incident happened about a mile north of Eatonville on SR 161 about 11:30 p.m., State Patrol spokeswoman Johnna Batiste said.

An intoxicated 37-year-old Eatonville woman was driving her pickup north when she struck a 57-year-old Eatonville man who was walking in and out of the roadway, Batiste said. The man was hit by the truck’s mirror.

The man was taken to Tacoma General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Batiste said.

Troopers arrested the woman at the scene and booked her into Pierce County Jail early Sunday on suspicion of vehicular assault.

SR 161 remained closed past 1 a.m. for the investigation.
