Spanaway man drunkenly berates, blasts ex-girlfriend with buckshot, deputies say

A Spanaway man drunkenly shot his ex-girlfriend and her neighbor with buckshot after a Friday night dispute, Pierce County prosecutors say.

The 53-year-old was arraigned Monday in Pierce County Superior Court on two counts of first-degree assault. Bail was set at $200,000.

According to charging documents:

The ex-girlfriend had walked over to the man’s house in the 5300 block of 224th Street East about 11:30 p.m. and wanted to talk with him. She arrived to find him drunk, so she left.

As she walked back to her home about a mile away, the man followed behind her in his vehicle. He shouted at her and threw things at her as she walked.

When she got to her home, the man threw glass bottles at her, then drove back and forth in front of the home while he continued to yell.

Some of the woman’s neighbors came out of their homes to watch the spectacle. The man then pulled out a shotgun, pointed it at his ex-girlfriend and fired. The buckshot hit the woman and one of her neighbors, neither of whom were seriously injured.

The man was arrested and booked into the Pierce County Jail, records show.
