Man shot, killed in road rage incident in Tacoma, police say

A 56-year-old man was fatally shot Monday in a vehicle involved in a road rage incident in South Tacoma, police said.

At about 3:15 p.m., Tacoma Police Department received reports of the incident with shots fired near South 54th and South Washington Streets, according to a news release. Police said both of the vehicles involved left the scene of the shooting, and the driver of the victim vehicle reported that a man in the backseat of her vehicle was shot.

The driver took the injured man to a local hospital where he later died. He has not been identified. Detectives and crime scene technicians responded to the scene of the shooting and the hospital.

The driver and another man in the front passenger seat were not injured.

On Tuesday morning, Tacoma police said they didn’t know what led to the shooting. Police spokesperson Wendy Haddow said some car debris was found in the road, and detectives were searching the area for video.

Police are investigating the man’s death as a homicide. It is the fourth homicide in the city this year.
