Chihuahua survives Federal Way house fire after alerting owners to danger

A Chihuahua that alerted its owners to a fire Wednesday in their Federal Way home was presumed dead until firefighters found the dog inside the charred home.

Chloe’s survival surprised and delighted the family and fire crews that responded to the blaze, which started about 7:30 a.m. in the garage. Flames quickly spread to the home in the 32800 block of 29th Avenue Southwest.

The dog alerted its owner to the danger and the three people inside the house managed to crawl out of a back window. One was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

A second dog also survived but a third died.

Firefighters battling the blaze found Chloe inside the home, which was deemed a total loss.

Cause for the fire was not yet determined.
