9 people displaced in Puyallup house fire

Nine people were displaced Wednesday after a car fire spread to a Puyallup home and caused significant damage, according to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue.

The blaze was reported about noon at 94th Avenue East and 113th Street East.

“It was originally a car fire and then it rolled up on the outside onto the roof and into the attic,” Assistant Chief Ed Hrivnak said. “The roof had burned off before we even got here.”

Nine people, including four children, from three families were home at the time and safely escaped. The American Red Cross is helping the families find temporary housing.

Firefighters rescued four birds and a turtle but are still searching for a cat.

Investigators are trying to determine what started the fire and how it spread so quickly from the car to the house.
