Man in jail after allegedly stashing motorcycle under kiddie pool following high-speed chase

Police took a man into custody after he allegedly stashed his motorcycle under a kiddie pool following a high-speed chase this week in Roy.

Officers first found the bike and then spotted a court slip with his name on it that had been left behind.

Guy Milton Sample III, 43, was in jail Wednesday after pleading not guilty Tuesday to charges of attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle and resisting arrest. Bail was set at $40,000.

According to court records:

Sample made an unsafe turn Monday morning in the 29500 block of state Route 507 and did not pull over when an officer chased him.

Sample started passing cars and driving in the oncoming lane of the highway, running some vehicles off the road and reaching speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.

The officer stopped the pursuit out of concern for the other motorists and for Sample’s passenger.

Later that day, a woman called police to report a motorcycle she’d found hidden under her children’s swimming pool. Investigators determined the bike was registered to Sample.

A leather jacket and two motorcycle helmets also were found, along with a Tenino court slip bearing Sample’s name.

A truck pulled up during the investigation and then drove away. Authorities followed and watched as Sample jumped out of the moving vehicle. They ran after him and struggled with him as they apprehended him.
