Rafters rescued from Puyallup River

Crews rescued three rafters thrown into the Puyallup River Sunday evening.

Central Pierce Fire & Rescue said the raft hit a sunken log about 5:45 p.m., ejecting them from the boat.

One woman was helped to shore, while another woman and a man held onto a tree branch until a rescue boat arrived.

The three, all in their 20s, were not injured.

Agency spokesman Ed Hrivnak said none of the rafters were wearing life vests.
