Couple accused of burglary tells police they were house hunting, making love

A couple accused of burglarizing a Tacoma home first told officers they went inside while house hunting.

Then they said they had ducked in to make love.

Prosecutors charged the 34-year-old man and 34-year-old woman with residential burglary, to which they pleaded not guilty Monday.

Police found the couple in a crawl space under the house Friday after getting a report of a possible burglary in progress, according to charging papers, at which point the man started his series of explanations for why the pair was there.

They had several bags with them, which they claimed were not theirs, that had many of the residents’ personal belongings, such as a debit card, sheets, laptops and hair care products.

According to charging papers, the residents of the home were in the process of moving, and were not living at the house at the time.
