Brush fire in Summit closes lanes of SR 512

Crews closed one lane in both directions of state Route 512 Sunday in Summit to respond to a brush fire.

The blaze was reported about 4 p.m. at westbound SR 512 and Fruitland Avenue East, State Patrol spokesman Guy Gill said.

Flames spread from the brush to the treeline, and embers eventually caught the median of the highway on fire as well, Central Pierce Fire & Rescue spokesman Guy Overby said. Shortly before 6 p.m., he said crews had the fire under control.

Gill said an abandoned vehicle with collision damage was found in the area and impounded, but that officials had not determined whether a crash started the fire.
