Police: Clerk swings stool, garden hose at robber who hit store twice in 3 days

Police are looking for a man they say robbed a Tacoma store at knife point twice in three days.

The man first walked into the 72nd Street Deli & Market in the 700 block of South 72nd Street about 10:30 p.m. July 17. He displayed a large knife, demanded cash, and fled with the money, police said.

Things didn’t go quite as smoothly for him two days later.

About 11:15 p.m. he tried to rob the clerk, who responded by swinging a stool at him, police said. The robber grabbed the cash register and ran, and the clerk struck him with a garden hose as he fled, according to Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers.

The robber is described as white, in his mid 20s, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-10, with a medium build and dark hair.

He had a beard and mustache during the first robbery, but was clean shaven for the second, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477). Tips are anonymous and can lead to a reward.
