Spanaway nurse accused of sexually assaulting vulnerable adult

The state on Wednesday suspended the license of a Spanaway nurse accused of sexually assaulting a vulnerable adult with developmental disabilities.

Michael Van Kirk, a 33-year-old licensed practical nurse, is accused of forcing a woman to have sex with him at his home and in his vehicle, despite her attempts to stop him.

The woman occasionally stayed at Van Kirk’s house because his wife was providing in-home care services to her between August 2013 and January, the state Department of Health said.

During at least one of the assaults, Van Kirk’s wife was present and saw what was happening, the state said.

Van Kirk has 20 days to request a hearing to contest his suspension and the charge.
