Seattle suspect caught after Tacoma attack

Police arrested a Seattle man on suspicion of rape and robbery after an attack Friday night in Tacoma’s South End.

A driver stopped around 11 p.m. to pick up a 27-year-old woman walking in the 7200 block of Pacific Avenue South, Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said. The pedestrian told the driver she needed a ride home to Federal Way.

Once in the car, the man pressured the woman for money, then pulled her into the back seat and sexually assaulted her, Cool said.

Breaking free, the woman ran to a fire station and told authorities about the attack.

A traffic stop on Yakima Avenue soon nabbed a 30-year-old man, who was booked into the Pierce County Jail. The News Tribune typically does not identify suspects until they are formally charged with a crime.
