Rescuers perform CPR on American Lake swimmer

A man who slipped under the surface of American Lake while swimming Tuesday night was pulled from the water by rescue crews and taken to a hospital.

Rescuers performed CPR on the man before transporting him just before 8 p.m.

His age and condition were not immediately available, West Pierce Fire & Rescue spokeswoman Hallie McCurdy said.

Rescuers found the man in about two minutes in the water, just outside the swim area at Lakewood’s Harry Todd Park, she said.

It wasn’t clear for how long he was underwater, but McCurdy said six minutes passed between when crews were dispatched after the 911 call and when the man was rescued.

Further details were not immediately available.
