Tacoma man killed while racing other car

Tacoma police on Friday said a 21-year-old man was killed Thursday night after he crashed his car while racing another vehicle.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Logan Hettinger of Tacoma.

The accident happened about 9:30 p.m. in the 9000 block of South Hosmer Street.

Witnesses reported seeing a black Ford Mustang and an unidentified white car speeding south on South Hosmer Street.

Hettinger, who was behind the wheel of the Mustang, lost control going around a curve and hit a curb, telephone pole wire, fence, bus stop sign and tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We don’t know if the two cars actually bumped, but all of a sudden they were fishtailing,” police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.

The white car didn’t stop after the crash. Police are trying to identify the vehicle and driver.
