A man rescued while swimming in American Lake last week has died, Lakewood police said Monday.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as 21-year-old Robert Wright.
West Pierce Fire & Rescue crews on Tuesday found him under the surface of the lake, just outside the swim area at Lakewood’s Harry Todd Park. They performed CPR, and took him to the hospital just before 8 p.m.
He died the next day, police spokesman Chris Lawler said.
Wright’s address was listed as Joint Base Lewis-McChord, the Medical Examiner’s Office said. It was not immediately clear whether he was a service member there.
