Man accused of hitting bicyclist pleads not guilty

A Buckley man has pleaded not guilty to vehicular assault after he was accused of striking a bicyclist on state Route 410.

Trevor Martin, 24, is also charged with failure to remain at the scene of an injury accident. He was ordered held in lieu of $10,000 after being arraigned Friday.

The accident happened about 10 p.m. Thursday on state Route 410 at 171st Avenue East.

State troopers said Martin appeared to be intoxicated and texting on his cellphone when he drifted onto the shoulder of the road and hit a 53-year-old bicyclist.

A witness followed Martin and stopped him about 0.3 of a mile from the crash.

Martin admitted to troopers that he had been texting, according to charging papers. The results of his toxicology test are pending.

The victim suffered a fractured ankle and leg.
