Warrant issued for Tacoma man wanted in drive-by shooting of man, 3-year-old girl

A warrant has been issued for a Tacoma man suspected of shooting at another driver whose 3-year-old daughter was a passenger.

Pierce County prosecutors have charged Marcelis Donta Lopez, 23, with two counts of first-degree assault and one count of first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

He remains at large.

Lopez is a convicted felon and is barred from having a gun.

The drive-by shooting occurred July 16 outside the Bryn Mar apartments at 8203 S. Hosmer St.

Lopez took issue with the victim because he was living with Lopez’s ex-girlfriend, according to charging papers. Days before the shooting, Lopez allegedly pistol whipped the victim, who later got two staples to close the head wound.

The victim told police that on July 16 Lopez pulled up alongside his vehicle at the apartment complex and began shooting. Lopez allegedly continued shooting even after the man yelled at him that his 3-year-old daughter was in the backseat.

The man was unable to drive away because his car had a flat tire so he dived into the backseat to shield his daughter, court records indicate.

Police found seven shell casings at the scene.

Nobody was hurt in the shooting.
