3-acre brush fire contained on Key Peninsula

UPDATE as of 2:23 p.m.:

The department said the wildfire is contained. Crews are still on scene mopping up hot spots.

Earlier story: Key Peninsula firefighters are battling a 3-acre brush that fire that broke out just before 2 a.m. in the 16600 block of Hoff Road.

No homes are threatened, and officials described the blaze as slow moving.

A cause has not been determined.

A Red Flag warning remains in effect until 9 p.m. for the area because forecasters are concerned about warm temperatures and high winds increasing the risk of fire due to the amount of dry brush.

The National Weather Service said there is a “critical combination of wind, low humidity and dry fuels.”
