Police ask for help to find driver in wreck that killed JBLM solider

Police are asking the public to help find a driver involved in a crash that killed a Joint Base Lewis-McChord solider last month in Tacoma.

Logan Hettinger died when he crashed while racing another vehicle Aug. 21, police said.

The 21-year-old is survived by his wife and young daughter.

The wreck happened about 9:30 p.m. in the 9000 block of South Hosmer Street.

Witnesses reported that an unidentified white car and the black Ford Mustang driven by Hettinger were speeding down Hosmer before the Mustang lost control, according to Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers.

Police said it wasn’t clear if the cars bumped.

The Mustang hit a curb, a telephone pole wire, a fence, a bus stop sign and a tree.

The person driving the white car fled, police said.

Anyone with information about the driver of the white vehicle is asked to call 1-800-222-TIPS(8477). Tips are anonymous and can lead to a reward.
