A 15-year-old girl was seriously injured Thursday morning after she was hit by a school bus in Federal Way, police said.
The accident happened about 7:45 a.m. in the intersection near Federal Way High School at South 308th and Pacific Highway South, police said. The street was closed in both directions while officers investigated.
Police said the girl was in a crosswalk when she was hit by the school bus, which was making a left turn. It was unclear whether the bus or the girl had the right of way.
The school bus was loaded with kids at the time, so investigators were talking to them to find out what they saw.

The driver, who the school district placed on routine administrative leave, was interviewed as well. The driver, police said, was very upset about the incident.
The Washington State Patrol inspected the bus to see whether there was a mechanical failure with the brakes or steering.
No further details were immediately available.
