Thieves cut through wall to get to guns at Lakewood shop

To get to the guns they wanted to steal, burglars smashed through the wall of a vacant adjoining business and took about 30 firearms from a Lakewood gun shop, police said.

Federal authorities are offering a reward for information concerning Monday’s burglary of Quantico Tactical in the 12300 block of Pacific Highway Southwest.

One or more burglars took the firearms and accessories from the gun shop about 11:30 p.m., police said

Stolen were about 30 Springfield Armory pistols (9mm, .40-caliber and .45-caliber guns), several upper and lower receivers for 5.56mm rifles and various Eotech, Trijicon and Bushnell optical rifle scopes and magnifiers.

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is investigating the theft with Lakewood police.

ATF spokesman Brian Bennett said it was not clear how many people burglarized the store, which didn’t have surveillance footage of the crime.

There is no security requirement for firearms retailers, Bennett said, but businesses must report the theft of firearms within 48 hours. He said Quantico reported the missing guns right away.

Employees of the business were not reachable Thursday.

ATF said Thursday it was offering a reward of up to $5,000, which would be matched for a total of $10,000 by the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

The two organizations have a matching agreement for thefts of guns from federally licensed firearms retailers.

Anyone with information is asked to call ATF at 1-800-ATF-GUNS (1-800-283-4867), or Lakewood police at 253-830-5000. Tips will be confidential.
