Officials identify man who died after fall from Tacoma onramp

A man who died Saturday when he apparently fell from a downtown Tacoma onramp was Jason J. Vanhouten, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office said Monday.

The 35-year-old Puyallup man crashed his Ford Ranger pickup into a concrete Jersey barrier about 1:40 a.m., according to the Washington State Patrol.

The crash happened on the eastern side of the Ninth Street onramp to southbound Interstate 705.

Vanhouten got out of the truck, walked across the ramp, climbed over the barrier and fell about 27 feet onto the pavement of I-705, troopers said.
