Police: Patrol car lands on its roof on Key Peninsula

A Gig Harbor police officer lost control of his patrol car and crashed Wednesday as he drove through the Wauna curves on the Key Peninsula, police chief Kelly Busey said.

The crash about 8:30 a.m. left the car on its roof along state Route 302, not far from the Purdy Spit, Busey said.

The officer was not seriously hurt, and no other vehicles were involved, according to police.

Busey said the officer was on his way to help Pierce County sheriff’s deputies respond to a burglary in progress on the Key Peninsula at the time of the crash.

The Washington State Patrol will investigate the wreck, and Gig Harbor police will do an internal review, per procedure, Busey said.

“We’re just glad that both the officer and nobody else was seriously hurt in the incident,” he said.
