Lakewood police arrest final suspect in deadly home invasion

Lakewood police said Friday they’ve arrested the final suspect in a home-invasion robbery in which a homeowner mortally wounded one of the robbers.

The 17-year-old boy was taken into custody Friday afternoon in Des Moines and then booked into the Pierce County Jail for investigation of manslaughter, robbery, assault and kidnapping.

He is expected in Superior Court next week.

Police believe the teen was one of three young men who forced their way into a home in the 11000 block of Briar Road Southwest on Tuesday. The intruders assaulted the couple who lives there before tying them up and stealing their jewelry and other property.

The husband managed to free himself and shoot one of the robbers, who then fled, police said. The wounded man, 19-year-old Taijon Voorhees, later was found dead in the parking lot of a Federal Way apartment complex.

On Wednesday, police arrested 19-year-old Duprea Wilson in connection with the case. Pierce County prosecutors charged him on Thursday with a dozen felonies. Wilson has pleaded not guilty and is being held in lieu of $3 million bail.
