Lake Tapps house destroyed in fire

Two people escaped a fire that destroyed their Lake Tapps house early Tuesday, according to East Pierce Fire & Rescue.

Firefighters responded about 12:45 a.m. to the home in the 3200 block of Deer Island Drive and found the house fully engulfed in flames.

The blaze had burned the basement and quickly moved to the main level of the house. Within minutes of crews arriving, the back deck collapsed.

“We never did make it inside the house,” Battalion Chief Jay Adams said.

No cause for the fire was yet determined.

The home was a total loss.
