A University Place lawyer who went missing after his wife was found dead in a Tacoma hotel room has been found safe, police said Tuesday.
Police wanted to find Donald Mansfield because they believed he had been at the hotel room in the 8800 block of South Hosmer Street where his wife, 55-year-old Elaine Mansfield, was found dead Nov. 1.
The cause and manner of Elaine Mansfield’s death are still being investigated, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office said Tuesday.
Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said Tuesday that officers still are investigating the death but had no updates.

Donald Mansfield, 71, had last spoken to relatives Oct. 30. At the time he went missing he was believed to have serious health problems, police said.
He was found Nov. 18 in Hoquiam and arrested on a warrant for a first-degree theft charge. He pleaded not guilty to the charge in October.
He allegedly stole at least $6,300 from a client’s settlement in a personal-injury case, and failed to appear in court last month. Mansfield was back in court Nov. 18 after his arrest, and was ordered released on his own recognizance.
