Identities of father, daughter found dead in South Hill released

A man who is believed to have killed his 7-year-old daughter before committing suicide has been identified as Kenneth Hornaday, 58.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the daughter as Savannah Hornaday.

Savannah, who was found dead in her bed, was strangled. Hornaday’s cause of death was asphyxiation by hanging.

Deputies discovered their bodies Tuesday inside their home in the 17700 block of 85th Avenue Court East after a neighbor requested a welfare check.

The Hornadays were supposed to be evicted Tuesday and neighbors became concerned after seeing his fully packed SUV parked outside with no answer at the front door.

Neighbors later told detectives Hornaday had made comments indicating he was suicidal. Detectives believe he killed his daughter and then himself late Monday or early Tuesday.

Father and daughter lived in the apartment alone.
