2 Pierce deputies hurt in Tacoma crash

Two Pierce County sheriff’s deputies were hurt early Friday after an alleged drunken driver ran a stop sign and hit their patrol car.

The accident happened about 1:15 a.m. at South Tacoma Way and South Trafton Street.

The deputies were traveling down South Trafton Street when the other vehicle T-boned them, Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.

Both deputies were taken to the hospital with minor injuries and released.

The 27-year-old driver of the other vehicle was not hurt but his passenger was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center with unknown injuries.

Police believe the driver had been drinking.

The patrol car was ruined, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.
