A man fishing off the Les Davis pier in Tacoma on Saturday morning reeled in a heavily decomposed body, according to Tacoma police, and officials will examine the body Monday.
The man called 911 around 11 a.m. after snagging the body from the pier in the 3400 block of Ruston Way.
A boat from the Tacoma Fire Department tried to recover the body from the water but was unsuccessful, according to Tacoma Police spokeswoman Loretta Cool.
Divers from the Tacoma Police Department were called and were able to recover the remains from underneath the pier, Cool said.
The body was too deteriorated to determine whether it was a man or woman, and Cool said it was too soon to say whether the death would be investigated as a homicide.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and will perform the examination to try to identify the remains.
