Puyallup police arrest alleged grocery store robber

Puyallup police said Monday they had arrested a 25-year-old Tacoma man who allegedly robbed a Puyallup grocery store at gunpoint Sunday.

Tips helped detectives identify the suspect, who they found and arrested without incident about 1 p.m. near South 84th Street and South Hosmer Street.

After the holdup at Pioneer Grocery, police put out surveillance photographs because the robber had a distinctive goatee and detectives hoped someone could identify him.

The goatee was several inches long and came to a point.

The robber walked into the store about 1 p.m. at 1522 E. Pioneer, threatened to shoot the employee, robbed the worker and fled. Nobody was hurt.

Witnesses reported seeing the robber flee in a gold Cadillac Escalade.

Detectives found the car and evidence from the robbery at an apartment in the 8300 block off South Ash Street, police said.
