Suspected drunken driver charged in fatal crash in Tacoma

Pierce County prosecutors charged a man Monday in connection with a collision that killed a Lakewood man over the weekend.

Karl Morine, 46, pleaded not guilty to vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and third-degree driving on a suspended or revoked license.

Police and prosecutors say Morine was drunk Saturday night when his Ford Explorer hit another vehicle in Tacoma.

Killed in the crash was Kenton Selander, 57, of Lakewood. His sister-in-law, who was in the front seat, was not seriously injured in the accident.

Selander was eastbound on South 32nd Street when he ran a stop sign, Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said. Morine, who was heading south on Pacific Avenue, then hit Selander’s car.

The accident is considered Morine’s fault because he allegedly was drunk.
