Inmate worker finds apparent pipe bomb along Centralia road

A Lewis County Jail inmate worker picking up garbage in Centralia found a device that looked like a pipe bomb about noon Wednesday.

A supervisor called 911, and Lewis County sheriff's deputies responded to the 1100 block of Salzer Valley Road.

Deputies called the Washington State Patrol’s bomb squad and the device was detonated safely about 3 p.m.

The road was closed off for about 10 minutes while the device was detonated.
