Police nab 2 after shooting in Eastside Tacoma

Two men — one wet and cold — were in police custody and a third man was sent to the hospital after a fight escalated to gunfire Saturday night in Eastside Tacoma.

One man was shot, said Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool.

Two men left the scene, the 3500 block of East L Street, at high speeds, down Pacific Avenue and onto Schuster Parkway.

The car left the roadway on a curve and crashed into the train tracks, Cool said.

Two men left the car, one deciding to flee the police by leaping into Commencement Bay.

“He swam, ran, whatever, for about 50 feet out and didn’t want to listen to the officers, and it got too cold, so he swam back and he was taken into custody,” Cool said.

Police were searching the water for the gun that might have been used, she said.

She did not know what type of gun was involved.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway was notified to inspect for possible damage to the railroad tracks, Cool said.
