A head-on crash Wednesday in Sumner sent three people to the hospital, East Pierce Fire & Rescue said.
The three patients were taken to St. Joseph Medical Center, and two had life-threatening injuries, East Pierce Battalion Chief Eric McLeroy reported.
The two-car wreck happened about 4:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of East Valley Highway East.
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to get the patients out of the vehicles.

The road was closed as police and fire officials responded.
Police were investigating what caused the wreck, and expected the road to be closed until about 8 or 9 p.m., spokeswoman Carmen Palmer said.
