Raft Island water safe; faulty equipment showed E. coli in system

Test results show water in the Raft Island Water System west of Gig Harbor is safe to drink, the state said Monday.

The water tested positive for E. coli bacteria Thursday, and the roughly 520 residents affected were told to boil their water.

But investigators found a faulty sample-site meter and sample port were the problem. When they replaced the equipment, tests showed the water was safe, the state Department of Health said.
