A man whose toddler’s mother was arrested for investigation of burning the boy with scalding coffee said he believes the injury was an accident.
The Graham woman, 43-year-old Genevra Dines, pleaded not guilty Monday to third-degree child assault, and her bail was set at $50,000.
Scott Howard, the 3-year-old boy’s father, called The News Tribune on Wednesday to say he thinks Dines was wrongly charged.
She thew a cup of coffee on the floor, he said, during an argument that charging papers said was about using the phone.

Dines went to get another cup, and as she was in the kitchen, Howard said, she tripped, spilling the liquid that burned the boy on his head.
Howard said the child has a burn on his forehead, but that the doctor said he will be fine.
