Car hits Puyallup boy walking to school

A car hit a 13-year-old boy walking to school Friday, Puyallup police said.

He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and was expected to survive.

The teen was walking to Aylen Junior High about 7:10 a.m. when a car hit him in the crosswalk at West Pioneer Avenue and 15th Street Southwest, police said.

Capt. Scott Engle said the driver was not cited.

“It may be a situation where the student darted out in front of the car,” he said. “We’re still investigating.”

Officers closed West Pioneer from 16th Street Southwest to 14th Street Southwest while they investigated. The street reopened shortly after 8 a.m.
