A teacher at Fife’s Columbia Junior High was booked into Pierce County jail this weekend, accused of sending inappropriate Twitter messages to a 15-year-old former student.
The 33-year-old teacher was arrested early Saturday, said Fife police spokesman Det. Sgt. Tom Thompson. The News Tribune is not naming him because he hasn’t been charged with a crime.
Thompson said a 15-year-old student at Fife High School told her teacher Friday that she had received some messages from a former teacher via the popular social networking site.
“She was friends with him on social media,” Thompson said. “He began sending her some messages that she initially responded to, and then they became suggestive and she was uncomfortable with that.”

The girl’s teacher told school administrators, who notified her parents and the police.
Detectives spoke to the girl and saw the messages. The detectives spoke to the teacher at the police station. He was booked into jail after refusing to answer any questions.
The teacher was released on bail Sunday afternoon.
Thompson said the investigation continues, and the man is expected to be formally charged this week.
