Traffic on southbound Interstate 5 in Fife backed up for at least 8 miles Monday after a crash near Port of Tacoma Road, according to the state Department of Transportation.
An unsafe lane change by a northbound car caused the driver to lose control about 2 p.m. and head into the southbound lanes, hitting two other vehicles, Washington State Patrol Trooper Guy Gill said.
He said the driver didn’t appear to be impaired.
At the same time the three-car wreck was blocking the southbound freeway, crews responded to a two-car wreck nearby on northbound I-5.
