Tacoma police searching for suspect in attempted downtown child luring

A man tried to lure a Tacoma middle school student into his car Friday morning near South Eighth Street and Yakima Avenue, according to Tacoma police.

The student was at a bus stop about 7:15 a.m., alone, waiting for a bus when the man approached her. He was scared off when the bus pulled up.

Police described the man as white and about 30 years old. He was driving a small silver car with a Washington license plate.

Truman Middle School Principal Justina Johnson sent a message to parents about the incident.

“While this incident occurred far from our school, I wanted to alert you because it involved one of our students,” the message said.

Truman, in Tacoma’s West End, is about five miles from the downtown location where the reported incident occurred.

Anyone with information about a suspect was asked to contact police.
