A fight over noise at a Parkland apartment complex late Monday led to a fatal stabbing.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office said Dan Hoglund, 50, died from multiple stab wounds. A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and was expected to be charged Wednesday (Feb. 25).
Neighbors called 911 about 11:30 p.m. to report two men fighting in the third-floor hallway of the University Park apartments in the 400 block of Wheeler Street South, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said Tuesday.
Sheriff’s deputies responded and found the victim slumped over in the hallway near his apartment. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect was found in his second-floor unit, cleaning himself up from the altercation, Troyer said.
Investigators believe the suspect was annoyed that the victim was being too loud arguing with another man and went upstairs to confront them.
That confrontation led to “fighting in the hallways and stairwell, and during the struggle, the 21-year-old stabbed the victim multiple times,” Troyer said.
A pocket knife was recovered from the suspect’s apartment.
