A man crushed to death Wednesday at a truck rental facility in the Port of Tacoma has been identified as a 51-year-old Lacey resident.
Albert Wayne Devos was standing in the parking lot of the business about 6:30 a.m. when a 26-year-old man climbed into one of the trucks to move it out of the way.
The driver noticed Devos standing in front of him but didn’t worry about it because he planned to back the truck out, police said.
“He thought he put the truck in reverse but hit the accelerator and lurched forward,” police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said Friday.

Devos was pinned between the two trucks.
The driver could not figure out how to put the truck in reverse, so a witness climbed into the cab to move the vehicle away from Devos.
Devos was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death an accident. Police did not cite or arrest the driver.
