Police: Man drives to Western State Hospital, reports dead woman in vehicle to staff

A man drove to Western State Hospital in Lakewood with a dead woman Sunday, and told staff members there that his girlfriend’s body was inside the vehicle, police said.

A Lakewood police statement gave this account:

Hospital staff members called 911 about 11 a.m. after the man, about 30, spoke with them. Hospital security and Lakewood police officers checked the car and found the woman, whose body showed signs of trauma, and detained the man.

She appeared to be about 25.

It’s not yet clear how she died, but police were treating the death as homicide, spokesman Chris Lawler said.

The pair had had no previous interactions with the hospital, and it was not clear why the man went there with the body. The two had some sort of relationship, and possibly were dating, police said.

They have family in the Seattle area and appeared to be transient.

Lawler said detectives drove the man to Seattle after he said that’s where the death happened, and agreed to show investigators there the location.

Seattle police will finish the investigation, he said.
