Officials identify woman killed on I-5 off-ramp in Tacoma

A 47-year-old transient who died Tuesday after being struck by a car on an Interstate 5 off-ramp in Tacoma has been identified as Susan Smith.

Police said Smith might have been intoxicated when she walked onto the off-ramp near Portland Avenue about 12:10 a.m. and was struck by a vehicle.

The driver, who was coming home from work, stopped after the accident and searched for the woman but could not find her. Officers arrived moments later and located Smith’s body.
