Teenager dies after ‘car surfing’ in Kent school parking lot

A teenager died after he was thrown from the hood of a vehicle while “car surfing” in the parking lot of Kent-Meridian High School, police said.

The boy was riding on the hood outside the school just after classes ended Tuesday at 10020 SE 256th St. when the vehicle turned sharply, throwing the teenager to the ground, Kent police spokeswoman Melanie Robinson said.

He later died from his injuries, she said.

The boy’s name and age, and information about the driver weren’t immediately available.

Police said it wasn’t clear how fast the vehicle was going when the boy fell, and that prosecutors will look at the investigation and decide whether to charge the driver.

The Kent School District said counselors were available for students in need of support.

Further information wasn’t immediately available.
