Man ordered held after fatal shooting of girlfriend in Lakewood

A man suspected of fatally shooting his girlfriend Saturday in Lakewood was ordered held for 72 hours Monday as prosecutors review possible charges.

Mindy Lynn Hughes, 26, died from a gunshot wound to her chest, and her death was a homicide, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office said Monday.

Carlos Eduardo Perez Calderon, 28, was booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of domestic violence-related first-degree murder in connection to her death.

Calderon told police the gun went off accidentally about 3:15 p.m. Saturday in the 8200 block of Lake Street Southwest, police spokesman Chris Lawler said.
