Pregnant woman who drowned in Carbon River identified

A pregnant woman who drowned Sunday in the Carbon River while inner tubing has been identified as Dyana Ricci of Tukwila.

Ricci, 31, was floating the river with her husband and a friend when they got trapped by a fallen tree about 3 p.m., Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Swiftwater rescue crews responded to the 14820 block of 145th Street East near Orting and found the woman trapped by debris. They used a chain saw to get her out.

Ricci was in the water for about an hour before being rescued.

Two men tried to save Ricci before help arrived, but it was too late. She was taken to the Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, where she was pronounced dead.

Ricci and her friends were not wearing life vests.
