Pierce County sheriff’s investigators on Friday were searching for a driver whose vehicle fatally struck a pedestrian just east of Tacoma.
A neighbor in the 7200 block of 46th Avenue East found the man’s body about 4 a.m. Friday on the side of the road in front of a vacant house.
The man has not yet been identified but detectives said he is believed to be a transient.
“It appears to be a hit-and-run,” sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said. “We’re continuing to work it but we believe we know who the victim is.”
